Dream Girl under the sun

Some friends and I have this fun Roleplay Game based on the Legion of Super-Heroes and we requested Scott Buckman to work his magic on a picture we had, to turn her into Dream Girl. This is what he got.

JSA: Could this book happen?

The artwork of this beautiful piece is by Jim Taylor, with inks by Jeff Austin.  And it is very dear to me because yours truly did the colors.  I hope you like it, share as much as you want.

Is there room for the old Justice Society of America?  DC's new 52 is already giving us a hipper version of this team, with new and young versions of the Justice Society of America we all knew.  But in an universe where everything is minty-fresh and new, what happens with the classics?  The JSA certainly has a following, THIS JSA.  And while the new one may be a new experience, the old flavor is also missed by most.

This magnificent piece was done by Jim Taylor, with inks by Jeff Ausing and colors by Christian Zamora, in hope that DC would listen.  Do you want this JSA to happen?  We certainly do.

Spoiler-Free Comic Book Review: The Shadow 1

I will be completely honest I wasn’t expecting to pick this up.  Yes it is another revival from Dynamite and yes Garth Ennis is writing this, for now at least.  I wondered what could they do to make this book relevant to today’s readers and just well “grab you by the balls and not let go.”  Instead they didn’t even try to update this book instead it is still set in a pre World War Two America.  This I absolutely LOVE people finally it is just Garth saying hey I love this character I’m not gonna make some rubbish move to change it, update it or mess with I’m just going to do my darndest by it. 

If issue one is any indication then for as long as doing the book this way I’m totally on board. 

Lamont Cranston is a self assured, confident, charismatic, self centered and aloof son of a bitch and it suits him to a T.  His knowledge is his alone and how comes to it is his business no one else’s and if they decide to act upon his words or advice is their choice and he is not going to be pressed about it.  There is fine line when arrogance turns a man into a bastard and you see that Ennis has him flirting with this line but he doesn’t go over it.  Just inches ever so closer and possibly leans over but doesn’t really cross that line.  Truly an impressive first outing here with such a highly established character.

The fact that much of his knowledge he claims comes from a misspent youth is a delightful way to divert telling the truth of his flashes of prophetic visions.  His friends and business associates, of the sort that they are, don’t know his dual identity but his lover and closest allies do.  He is non-apologetically violent when necessary but gives the men in his way a chance to redeem themselves first.  So there is compassion before the violence whether they choose to take it is up to them and I also like this about him.

No gadgets other than his mind and what it can do to go along with his guns separate him from his contemporaries making something of the first vigilante super-hero out there.  It is nice to see that he is remembered and respected and this time around his revival seems to be in the most capable hands there are. 

The interior illustrations by Aaron Campbell with colours by Carlos Lopez really do the old school feel justice while keeping the look nice, sharp and stylish.  The result of the violent scenes aren’t turned into a gore fest though there is plenty of blood it is just a tad more tasteful. 

One issue down who knows how many more to go but I’ll say this Dynamite has done it again and I’m in for this creative teams run!

Spoiler-Free Comic Book Review: Batman 1-7

Batman #1-7. OMG.. why haven't I been reading this book? Hmm.. basically because I have to be in the right mood to read Batman. So, it's taken me seven months to pick it up. Okay.. so I devoured it, and loved every morsel. 


From the mystery of the Court of Owls, to the tension with Dick. To the worry that Jim and Alfred have for him. This is a fantastic story arc, all the way around. We learn more about the mystery of Gotham's past and the Court of Owls in bits and pieces through out the story, just enough to tease us to keep coming back for more. Scott Snyder is a machine. He was designed to write Batman.


The artwork is fantastic. The art style compliments the story perfectly. The art goes a little wonky during Bruce's labyrinth visit, but that's only because he was hallucinating. The art is dark and foreboding when it needs to be, and gets you deeper involved into the story. 


The revelations we find out in #7 are mind-blowing. You will be blown away by this book. Do yourself a favor and go buy this. 5/5.

This is one of the reasons I like X-Factor this much. Lots of character development, interesting subplots without going overboaThis is one of the reasons I like X-Factor this much. Lots of character development, interesting subplots without going overboard like the current run of the Legion of Super-Heroes, and the fun, there's always a lot of fun attached to the stories. Now, this one guest stars Black Cat and JJ Jameson, and some fun killers. M and Strong Guy manage to steal the spotlight, while Rahne turns out to be like a bad luck charm. This book comes highly recommended. 

I give it 4 and a half stars, out of 5.
